Atam Dhawan, Distinguished Professor,  pioneered low-angle trans-illumination technology and first demonstrated its application in skin-cancer imaging. His invention (Nevoscope) established the field of point-of-care in-situ diagnostic evaluation of skin-lesions. His optical imaging cornerstone technology led to 2 successful medical companies.

He is an NAI Fellow, IEEE Fellow, AIMBE Fellow, and IAMBE Fellow. Among many awards and honors, more recently Dr. Dhawan received the 2021 IEEE EMBS William J. Morlock Award for Excellence in Biomedical Technology.
