Our department is known for its student-centered and practice-oriented education. With over 50 faculty and staff members we are deeply committed to providing an outstanding educational experience to our students and preparing them as leaders of the next generation of electrical and computer engineers with the highest of personal and professional achievements. The state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories are designed to train the future workforce and meet the challenges of existing and emerging technologies of the 21st century.
As a research-intensive department, our faculty research activities span all major areas of contemporary electrical and computer engineering, including photonics, nano and quantum materials and devices; communication, signal processing and machine intelligence; energy, power system and sustainability; computer systems and networking; robotics, intelligent systems, data engineering in addition to information theory, computer architecture, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and bio-systems. Our undergraduate students have exciting opportunities to participate in our department's research projects as well as in various activities sponsored by the IEEE and other professional societies. Several research centers and laboratories provide a unique blend of resources and facilities to pursue research at the cutting edge of technology in active collaboration with leading industries. Our faculty research is funded by federal and state funding agencies (NSF, DOD, DOE, NIH, NJ CST, etc.) and industry as well (IBM, Hewlett-Packard, TELTC, Intel, Samsung). Our highly accomplished faculty include several National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award winners, 10 IEEE Fellows and several Fellows of other leading organizations such as AAAS, APS, ECS and FHKIE.
Being located in the major metropolitan area of New York City-New Jersey, the ECE Department offers unique opportunities for students to engage in co-op programs, internship, and research at many academic, industrial and government laboratories and research centers.
With approximately 650 undergraduate and more than 300 graduate students, we are one of the largest and most prestigious academic departments within the Newark College of Engineering. Our alumni find themselves in high demand for positions in corporate, government and educational institutions.
