ECE Alumni

RECENT ALUMNI MENTORING and ADVISORY BOARD

The Recent Alumni Mentoring and Advisory Board was created to span the perceived gap between the Student Advisory Board and the Industry Advisory Board. Members of the board are our top graduates from the past five years. Using their feedback, the department is able to make changes to programs and curriculum that keep these current and practical for the ever changing global environment.

We're also on Facebook (look for Shivon Boodhoo)!

Why become a member?

As a member of the Recent Alumni Mentoring and Advisory Board you are able to stay current on all department policies and procedures, you can give your input to proposed changes to the ECE curriculum, and it gives an opportunity to be a mentor to your undergraduate counterparts...helping others to successfully navigate the path you have recently trod. Cisco Systems – Systems Engineer

NJIT Feature Article: http://www.njit.edu/features/ student/zak-abbassi.php

"The guidance I received from ECE faculty and staff convinced me to get involved in the ECE and NJIT community, get a summer internship, and obtain multiple co-op positions. That experience allowed me to jump-start my career and make my way into the full-time position I currently have. As a graduate of NJIT I am able to independently learn new technologies and to think critically; a trait I believe all ECE graduates have. It is crucial for ECE students to not only take advantage of the curriculum, but also get involved in extracurricular activities such as school sports, organizations, department events, and general volunteering opportunities."

Zakariya is currently in a 1 year training program with Cisco Systems in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Within this program he has received sales and technology training, and has obtained Cisco Certifications - Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP). He has also been involved in extra groups within Cisco to assist Sales Representatives in supporting Cisco partners and clients. Starting this summer, he will be a part of the Cisco Sales force as a Systems Engineer.

NJIT Computer Engineering PhD in-progress

Brian D'Alessandro received his B.S and M.S degrees in Computer Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2008 & 2009 respectively. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the same field, also at NJIT, under the supervision of Dr. Atam Dhawan in the field of medical imaging. Brian is supported through a position as a teaching assistant for undergraduate ECE courses.

In past summers, Brian has been active in obtaining internships in industry and participating in research. The most recent internship was with IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY, where Brian utilized his programming skills and knowledge of computer hardware to work with a team of mainframe operating system developers. Although the experience was rewarding & stimulating, Brian saw that a research-oriented career was what he truely desired, thus influencing him onto his current path of doctoral studies at NJIT.

MS Software Engineering in-progress
BAE Systems

"My experiences and network connections made while at NJIT were paramount in landing my current position. I look forward to furthering my educational and professional career through my current pursuit of an M.S. degree in Software Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, specializing in Humand and Computer Interaction."

Jeremy earned his B.S. in Computer Engineering with a Computer Science minor at NJIT's Albert Dorman Honors College. Ever since he was first introduced to computers and technology in general at a young age, he has always had a passion for discovering "how things work." This lead to his desire to pursue an engineering degree in order to utilize cutting edge technology in developing new and exciting resources. Jeremy is currently working at one of the largest defense companies in the world, BAE Systems, in Wayne, NJ.

Navair – Systems Engineer

NJIT Feature Article: http://www.njit.edu/features/ student/valerierafalko.php

"I feel that ECE overly exceeded my expectations before college.  The department faculty and staff showed true concern for my academics and helped me succeed as a female EE. The ECE grad is prepared to work in any career. The most useful advice I can give to current students is to work hard and get your name out there. Networking is extremely important and you need the high GPA to get you in the door.  Once your there, it's up to your knowledge to keep you there and remember every job will train you for what they want."

Valerie currently works at Navair as a civilian Navy employee in Lakehurst, NJ. She has earned a leadership role as the Peer Development Group (PDG) co-chairman. The PDG is a group for new-hires up to 3 years to network with other engineers and supervisors. It provides social events, opportunities to brief others on current projects and learn about other areas of work for possible rotations. As a Systems Engineer, a typical workday for Valerie includes being involved in aspects of three projects including meetings, wiring components, programming on Labview, testing cameras, documentation and sometimes a taking a trip on a Navy carrier.

MS Financial Engineering in-progress
BAE Systems

"In today's world there's so much competition around you but at the same time there's so many chances to excel. Nothing magically comes to you; you have to take the initiative and seek it. Once it's yours, it's like having another notch on your belt. That notch differentiates you from the person next to you. To me, that is what being successful is all about."

Bruno believes that his experience at NJIT shaped his future and made him the young professional he is today.  From teaching physics classes as a teacher's assistant to obtaining four internships throughout his undergraduate career, NJIT consistently offered him various opportunities to excel as a person and as a professional.

Upon graduation, Bruno began his professional career working for one of the largest defense companies in the world, BAE Systems. He's currently developing test methodology used to validate communication devices on international F-16's. He's also perusing his Master's degree in Financial Engineering.

Bruno is currently working at BAE Systems in Wayne, NJ. His goals are to pursue an M.B.A. and launch a tutoring service in the near future. Bruno is visiting Europe this summer as well as planning various motorcycle trips across the U.S.

PSE&G – On-call system protection engineer, liaison personnel and strategist

“Protecting and restoring the power system involves effective interaction between engineers and customers and requires a lot of focus, quick decision-making and responsibility to take risk, however, in most emergency cases, you cannot give to them what you don't have.  NJIT has definitely given me a lot.”

As an undergrad, Giancarlo was very involved in university life. He served as an ECE Facilitator, Peer Assistant, and Research Assistant. He was also awarded scholarships from Coca-Cola, Associated General Contractors of NJ, R&D Council of NJ, and the Construction Roundtable of NJ.

Giancarlo is the author of several PSE&G microprocessor relay maintenance standards and fault report analyses re: distribution, subtransmission and transmission utility power lines ranging from 4000 to 138000 V. He is currently the system protection on call engineer for PSE&G Distribution Emergency Response Center. A self taught musician, Giancarlo serves as the acoustic guitarist, bassist and occasional vocalist for JCM Church in Clifton, NJ and Nutley Abundant Life Soul Purpose youth group in Nutley, NJ.
