About Me

Ali Abdi, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is also a graduate faculty of the Department of Biological Sciences. His research interests include wireless communication and propagation modeling in underwater, radio and oil well drill string channels, source localization, vector acoustic communication and signal processing, channel and parameter estimation techniques, modulation recognition, computational and systems biology, analysis of molecular networks and disease, and cell signaling.

He served as an editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology for five years. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a Member of the Acoustical Society of America, and a Member of the Society for Neuroscience.

His recent professional activities include Technical Program Committee Member for IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference, Canada (2016) and China (2016), ACM International Conference on Underwater Networks and Systems, Washington, DC (2015), International Conference on UnderWater Networks and Systems, Taiwan (2013) and Italy (2014); Technical Program Committee Member for IEEE Signal Processing in Medicine and Biology Symposium, New York (2012, 2013); and Co-organizer and Co-chair of the Systems Biology Frontiers of Neuronal Signaling Symposium for the 41st Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience, Washington, DC (2011).

Ali Abdi’s awards include the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame Innovators Award (2008) and IEEE Region 1 Award (2009) for contributions to underwater acoustic communication, New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame Innovators Award (2009) for a novel cross-disciplinary engineering-biology invention, and NJIT Excellence in Teaching Award in the category of Excellence in Team, Interdepartmental, Multidisciplinary, or Non-Traditional Teaching (2006).
