About the Speaker

Dr. Chi-Hsu Wang (M'92–SM'93) was born in Tainan, Taiwan, R.O.C, in 1954. He received the B.S. degree in control engineering from National Chiao-Tung University (NCTU), Hsinchu, the M.S. degree in computer science from the National Tsing-Hua University, Hsinchu, and the Ph.D.degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1976, 1978, and 1986, respectively. He was appointed Associate Professor in 1986, and Professor in 1990, in the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taiwan. He is currently Professor in the Department of Electrical and Control Engineering, National Chiao-Tung University. His current research interests and publications are in the areas of digital control, fuzzy-neural-network, intelligent control, adaptive control, and robotics. Dr. Wang is currently Associate Editor of IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON SYSTEMS, MAN, AND CYBERNETICS, PART–B, Webmaster and a member of Board of Governors of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society. He recently received 2006 Outstanding Contribution Award of IEEE SMCS.

About the Talk

The focus of the presentation will be on intelligent control of high-speed sensorless DC brushless motor. High-speed sensorless DC brushless motors have recently received great attention owing to their great potential of applications to many robotics, intelligent machine, and automation projects. Their control with classic control theory and techniques becomes very difficult. This presentation intends to overview various existing techniques and to present a novel intelligent control architecture for high-speed sensorless DC brushless motors. The research shows the significant advantages of the proposed solution over the existing ones.
