ECE Department receives NSF Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) Program Funding

Dr. John Carpinelli (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Durga Misra (Co-Principal Investigator) received a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation for providing undergraduate students, selected from nationwide engineering colleges and universities, a unique research experience in the area of computer networking and security.

In 2006, NJIT will have its inaugural offering of a new summer research program for undergraduates. The Research Experience for Undergraduates Site for Computer Networking and Security (http://reu.njit.edu), established with a grant from the National Science Foundation, will run during the summers of 2006 – 2008.  Under the direction of Dr. Carpinelli and Dr. Misra, students will work with several ECE faculty mentors on individual research projects, including Simulating DDoS Attacks in the Internet to Evaluate Different IP Traceback Schemes, Semantic Network for Intrusion Detection System, and Simulation Modeling and Security Analysis of Ad Hoc Networks for Vehicles.  Students will also attend a short course on computer networking and security and several workshops, and will present their work at a research symposium at the end of July.  The program is national in scope, and students from North Carolina State University, Harvey Mudd College, Universidad Metropolitan de Puerto Rico, Cornell University, Seattle Pacific University, Essex County College, Polytechnic University, and NJIT will participate in the 2006 program.
